5 Top Ways to Celebrate Your Mom on Mother's Day in Charleston, SC

On Sunday, families across the nation will gather to celebrate the most important member of the family (IMHO). Whether you call her Mother, Mom, Mama, or Mommy, it is very important to take a day to appreciate and celebrate the person who brought you into the world.  Unfortunately, some of us have experienced losing our Mother, so the day can be bittersweet. But, at any rate, I hope that you can share some quality time to celebrate your mom, a friend that you lean on, your mother-in law, or sister and make the day special.

What Mom wouldn't want to spend Mother's Day in Charleston, SC? While the local opportunities to create colorful family memories are endless, I wanted to share 5 of my favorite ideas for honoring your Mother on her special day. For the overachievers, I would suggest buying Mom some flowers (Trader Joe's, Whole Foods and Costco are some great last minute options), and possibly making the occasion even more special by ordering a beautiful layer cake (Publix is good and can usually offer 24 hour turn around), or a pastry and her favorite coffee for breakfast in bed.

Here are 5 ideas to celebrate your Mother in Charleston:

1. Tour Magnolia or Middleton Plantation:

Both Plantations are a short drive away from Charleston down scenic Highway 61. Magnolia is probably my favorite, but Middleton offer a nice restaurant and sweeping views of the Ashley River.

2. Lunch at the Folly Beach Pier/Walk to the Morris Island Lighthouse:

Folly Beach has a brand new restaurant on the Pier with a real beach vacation vibe. After lunch, walk the pier (no charge) or head up the beach to Morris Island Lighthouse. A favorite way to stretch our legs as a family on holidays.

3. Lunch at Obstinate Daughter/Poe's Tavern/ Mex 1 Cantina/Beach Afternoon/Ice Cream and Cookies at Beardcats:

There are several yummy, fun restaurants lining Middle Street on Sullivan's Island. Personally, we are late to the party and have not tried the Obstinate Daughter, but it is a local fave for seafood, gourmet pizza and pasta! For an amazing burger, you can't miss funky little Poe's Tavern, but be prepared to wait. Finally, if Mexican food is calling your name, try Mex 1 Coastal Cantina for both the frozen margaritas and the best tacos and bowls east of the Cooper River.

After lunch, hit the beautiful white sands of Sullivan's Island. Try Station 22 to ensure a great view of the lighthouse. Top off the day with ice cream at Beardcats Sweet Shop below the Obstinate Daughter for sweet trees and gelato.

4. Mt. Pleasant Pier Stroll/Milkshakes:

After brunch, take your Mom for a stroll along the Mt. Pleasant Pier under the Ravenel Bridge. The pier is massive, long enough to walk off a heavy brunch or lunch, with benches and swings if you want to sit a while and take in the activity in the harbor. The gift shop offers milkshakes and sundaes at a super reasonable price, and there is also a playground for younger family members. You really could spend and hour or two here.

5. Sunset sailboat Cruise on the Schooner Pride:

What a perfect way to wrap up the weekend. Take Mom on a sunset cruise and knock her socks off!! Holiday cruises sell out quickly, so make sure to buy tickets asap!!! There's nothing as beautiful as watching the sunset over historic downtown Charleston. A great way to grab a quiet moment with your Mom and make a shared memory that will last a lifetime.

Finally, when researching the options for Mother's Day outings, I found that you can buy tickets for   tours and excursions around Charleston at a discount through Expedia!! I was surprised by the variety of options available! Ghost tours, Culinary tours, Carriage Rides, Harbor Cruises, Air Conditioned Bus tours, Scavenger Hunts and even Photography sessions!

Splurge vs. Steal: Chloe Nile Bag

Happy Friday Friends!!

Today, I planned to post a roundup of the things I have been loving the last week or so, but ran out of time due to all of the end-of-school activities and final sports matches.  However, I ran across one cute thing that I had to make sure to share with you so that you don't miss it!  I saw this in store and just couldn't get it out of my head.

A couple of weekends ago, the top bloggers in the country spent a weekend in Dallas at the Reward Style Conference. One of my favorite bloggers and You Tubers,  Erin Busbee of Busbee Style shared a great little recap of the outfits that she wore at the conference, including this adorable Chloe cross body bag. Fast forward a week later, and I stumbled upon a dupe for that sweet little bag that I wanted to share with you!! The bag is described as "Parisian Chic," which pairs beautifully with all of the floral dresses popular in Spring fashion this season!! The original is offered in a variety of sizes and colors and priced accordingly, while it is also offered for resale on sites such as Ebay.

Chloe Nile Bag Dupe

While the original bag sells at places like Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus (sold out!!) and Saks ,  the dupe is available at Target! I love what Target has been doing lately with their collaborations and in their regular line. Leave it to them to offer such a cute Spring handbag! The bag can be worn across your body, or on your wrist with the bracelet.

Check out the bag and  please share in the comments what you think of it!!

XOXO,

Loft 40% Off Sale~~Outfit Inspiration

Happy Friday Friends!

Heading into last weekend of April, we are on a straight path into the best weather of the year!  I wanted to make sure you were aware of the Loft 40% sale going on now. I decided to have a little fun and do some "window shopping" for the sale, and while I was at it, style a couple of looks occasions in the next few glorious weeks.

To start with, here is a casual look for Mother's Day that is my style in a nutshell. Cute dress, a jean jacket, comfy shoes and delicate jewelry that go from church to lunch to walking around at one of the area's many gorgeous plantations. (A girl can hope the family will indulge their Mom)

The beginning of May brings pool openings, beach trips and Cinco de Mayo! I was drawn to the beachy feel of this dress, and added some more colorful accessories for a fun day at the beach, a pool party or evening out for Margaritas and Mexican food.

With a couple of patriotic holidays in the next couple of months. I thought it was a good time to start planning those outfits!! I always wake up on the Fourth of July and feel like I have nothing to wear. Start now, and you'll be ready for all the festivities!

Putting these outfits together was almost as fun as really shopping them. I do have a few items still hanging out in my Loft cart. I like to make sure that I am buying something that I really can't live without and not buying just because there's a sale. I hope that you can find something cute from this sale! Please leave a comment if you are shopping the sale and let me now what you are buying!! Have a great weekend.

April Showers Bring Stunning Sunsets

Happy Tuesday friends!

Wow! Monday really held up to it's reputation. Charleston was swamped with rain and flooding this morning, making a 10 mile commute take over an hour. The hubs missed a real estate seminar, even after they gave everyone an extra 30 minutes to arrive. Another friend actually missed a boat that was leaving for a work excursion. What do you do? You just have to be prepared to leave super early and sit in crazy traffic when they forecast rain here. You just never know how it will affect travel in the city!

I was driving all morning and couldn't shoot any pics, but I did grab one, though the focus is on the windshield. If you look carefully, you can see the water was high on both sides of the road. The Weather Channel shared social media posts all morning of the flooded streets of downtown Charleston, with bikes and debris floating and cars with water up to their hoods. Crazy times!

On a more positive note, April showers usually bring good things like flowers, and  apparently sunsets like these. Monday evening more than made up for the morning's monsoons. The setting sun combined with the leftover clouds for a gorgeous sunset. Temps cooled into the low 70's and the leaves just popped a vibrant green after the earlier rains. Sports were cancelled for the kids, so we took a much needed break,  and enjoyed the Spring weather. #lovewhereyoulive

XOXO,

Hello from Charleston in the Springtime!!!!

I have to apologize again for being an absentee blogger. Been spending some time figuring out what I want to do with the blog design and trying to create a schedule that will keep me posting on a regular basis. I'm thinking of simplifying posts a little and maybe even eventually incorporating video ;) I have been very active over at Instagram, so if you enjoy seeing more of spring in Charleston, please join me there!

I had to share a cool Kendra Scott promotion going on today (4/5/17). If you head over to her site, there are 13 hidden discounts placed throughout, in addition to free shipping!  Perfect time to grab some new Spring jewelry, but only today! I cannot speak highly enough of Kendra Scott's quality and functionality. I just love her pieces. They are mostly brass coated with 14k Gold. I have a few of the Rayne necklaces and two pair of earrings, and I almost exclusively wear her pieces on the daily.

While I feel that her mainstay pieces really have a clean, preppy aesthetic, her new offerings are  more dreamy and ethereal, a perfect compliment to the beautiful floral clothes we are seeing in stores.

Please check out the sale and comment with any pieces you buy!!

Here are a couple of the offers with codes (there are 13 in all):

And here are some of the items that I LOVE:

Sophia Drop Earrings

Rayne Rose Gold Necklace in Ivory Pearl

Katelyn Earrings In Granite

So there are a few of my picks. Again you can shop the whole site here.
I appreciate you stopping buy and shopping through my links! Stay safe today if you are in the stormy south!!
